On the 21st of september Klub Krai returns with an ambient listening session, taking over zone2source’s gallery space. Ending the weekend on a calm note, lay down with us in a hazy glass pavilion in Amstelpark for an evening of close listening. The evening features a lineup of DJ sets and hybrid performances from Amsterdam based and international visiting artists.
Arriving at the glass pavilion after a walk through the park, the panoramic glass space is enveloped by a slight haze. Throughout the space there are places to sit, rest, catch up with friends, drink and eat food served by Goja, an Amsterdam based collective exploring the intersections of food, culture and creativity.
Continuing to step further into the space, an intimate room in the back provides a calm space for laying or sitting down to closely listen to DJ and live sets. The listening room features a light installation by Amsterdam based artist, DJ and founder of the smokeshow event series Thom Mac Gillavry.
Line up:
krai:
The musical duo consisting of Klub Krai co-founders Jesse & Paulina was born at the moment they met in 2020. After releasing their debut album 'krai tot krai' in 2021, krai has been providing listening ears with ambient live performances and club dj sets. On the 21st of September krai will perform a hybrid set, performing both new productions and playing from their ever expanding library of internet digs with shared musical inspiration seeking euphoric and joyful sensations.
macrosoft:
With a wide experience playing both club and ambient sets across venues in Europe, Macrosoft's DJ set with us in Amsterdam promises to be memorable. In her set Macrosoft navigates the quiet gaps where subtle noises catch the ear and fractured rhythms pass like weather. Listening close, the smallest sounds open into vast worlds — intimate, unhurried. Drawing from her work as art director for ambient concept label evo-natura, her sets hold both the warmth of touch and the grit of interference.
Mel Keane:
Amsterdam based, Dublin raised multidisciplinary artist Mel Keane will treat us to a special DJ set. Mel Keane's DJ set promises to provide reflections on a wide range of experience and interests from performing under his alias Frog of Earth, as a member of Princ€ss and performing under his given name. In his own productions, Mel Keane explores Irish musical tradition, minimal composition, noise and sampling. His most recent album 'Airs' published on 'wherethetimegoes' provides a good window into his unique sound.
Ya3l:
Reverbed pop-edits, deconstructed rhythms and feelings of nostalgia are ever present in Ya3l's work. As a co-founder of Amsterdam collective Glitch404, Ya3l is very much at home in Amsterdam nightlife. In their hybrid performance during our evening in Amstelpark Ya3l will give us a peek into their upcoming EP, an experimental exploration of cultural identity, memory, and reimagining traditions. In their debut release, Ya3l’s intent is to sonically reframe familiar material into abstract auditory landscapes, evoking a distorted sense of nostalgia. The heavy processing and unconventional structure of each track is a metaphor for the way in which we recall memories, fragmented and altered.
Yoong:
Yoong, based in Tokyo, Japan, is Goos Dijkstra's moniker. Having released a wide ranging discography under the Amsterdam/ Tokyo label Seedlink⁺, which he co-founded in 2019, it's possible to take a deep dive into Yoong's distinct sound. More recently, Yoong has started producing for 1LDK, having released their new single Spring Dream this August.
Thom Mac Gillavry:
In charge of an essential part, encapsulating the listening room and accompanying the waves of sound with flickering, shimmering and shining lights, Thom Mac Gillavry will be creating a special light installation. Multidisciplinary at heart, Thom runs the Amsterdam based event series smokeshow, graduated Gerrit Rietveld Academie and DJ's under his moniker thom+. In his musical work Thom is interested in strobes, smoke machines, patterns, repetition, juxtaposition of emotions, dance music-tropes. High-definition-hyper-digitalism, hyper spatial sound and arpeggiators. We are curious to see his interest translated into the light installation.
This event was made possible with funding from Het Cultuurfonds and drink sponsorships from Salmari and Brouwerij t' IJ.
